Epoch 262. RECAP and Expected ROA

RECAP – The last Epoch 262, we minted our first block.

During the current Epoch 263, the rewards will be calculated and the rewards will be delivered in Epoch 264.

Looking at the data below that just came out, it shows that the expected annualized return from Adapools is 26.19% and pooltoo.io is 12.74% for the first block that we produced. We won’t know the actual result until Epoch 264 when the rewards are delivered. But either way, these are amazing returns! Reminder, for smaller community pools, we may not mint blocks as often as large pools, but the returns will be much greater when we do.

EPOCH 262. FIRST BLOCK MINTED!

Cardanodo NODO pool just hit our first milestone, FIRST BLOCK MINTED on the first epoch live. Thank you to the support of our delegators. We have also just received our first pooltool.io reward.

Stake Pool Perfomance: 100% (1 Block produced/1 Block assigned)

We are off to an extremely awesome and lucky start!

Check out our luck, which is at 476%! Luck is calculated by dividing the actual amount of block(s) produced in an epoch by the expected amount of blocks. Our chances of minting a block was 0.21 for this epoch, calculated with the protocol algorithm based on the active stake.

Remember, the rewards are distributed to delegators based on the proportion of ADA held. So, there many benefits for smaller pools, such as less dilution of rewards amongst delegators.

I truly believe that we are in the sweet spot right now. Our pool size has enough stake to produce consistent blocks, about 1 in 2 epochs with high returns, while also not large enough that the rewards would be diluted heavily. Over the long run, we should average as good, maybe even better reuslts than the large pools.

EPOCH 262 – We Are Live!

It has been 2 epochs since we registered our stake pool Cardanodo (NODO) on the Cardano blockchain. This epoch 262 (N+2), we are finally live and are excited to be elected slot leader, giving us a chance at minting our first block on Slot 298919. Stay tuned for some great news ahead!

Hardware Upgrades!

Hi Everyone,

We’re excited to announce that we have upgraded the block producing node hardware. The block producing node is fundamental to producing blocks, getting you rewards, so no down time should be allowed. This is why it deserves an overkill on the set up, which will allow it to be future proof!

Here are the minimum requirements:

1. Minimum Stake Pool Hardware Requirements
  • Operating system: 64-bit Linux (i.e. Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS)
  • Processor: An Intel or AMD x86 processor with two or more cores, at 2GHz or faster
  • Memory: 8GB of RAM
  • Storage: 20GB of free storage
  • Internet: Broadband internet connection with speeds at least 10 Mbps.
  • Data Plan: at least 1GB per hour. 720GB per month.
  • Power: Reliable electrical power
  • ADA balance: at least 505 ADA for pool deposit and transaction fees
​2. Recommended Future-proof Stake Pool Hardware Setup
  • Operating system: 64-bit Linux (i.e. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS)
  • Processor: 4 core or higher CPU
  • Memory: 8GB+ of RAM
  • Storage: 256GB+ SSD
  • Internet: Broadband internet connections with speeds at least 100 Mbps
  • Data Plan: Unlimited
  • Power: Reliable electrical power with UPS

3. NOW… here is our brand new server set up in comparison

  • Operating system: 64-bit Linux (i.e. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS)
  • Processor: Intel Xeon E-2174G 3.8GHz 4C/8T
  • Memory: 32GB+ of RAM (Upgradable to 128GB)
  • Storage: 1TB+ SSD (Hardware RAID1)
  • Internet: Broadband internet connections with 1GB/s speed
  • Data Plan: Unlimited
  • Power: Reliable electrical power with UPS

To summarize this for you, this is a kick ass server with an awesome server-grade processor and has a great deal of memory (which is further expandable). The 1TB SSD drives are fast and the large capacity, provides future-proof room for storing the increasing database size. And… did we mention it is running on RAID1 via a hardware controller? What this means is that there are 2 identical SSD drives that mirror each other and essentially serve as a redundant backup, in case 1 drive dies the other one will still work. To replace the dead drive is plug and play. Our internet speed is on a dedicated static IP, which is important, as you don’t want the IP to change, which will cause downtime, as you must reconfigure all the networking configurations. Our speed is 1GB/s (10X the recommended) and we have unlimited bandwidth. Finally, there is a backup electrical supply via UPS, in case of an electrical outage.

First Post. Cardanodo (NODO) Launched…

We are excited to launch Cardanodo and we welcome you to our Blog! We are excited to have the chance to contribute and support the Cardano Community and Network as the stake pool operators of Cardanodo (NODO).

However… the journey was not easy. This took a lot of time to research, execute and launch the Cardano Stake Pool. There is a lot of fragmented information out there and the tough part is putting it all together into a final product.

If you are considering creating a stakepool, we would recommend having at least a bit of prior IT experience, or else the learning curve my be quite steep (albeit not impossible). For example, you will have to deploy Ubuntu Server nodes using command line, set up security protocols and troubleshoot networking issues. It’s best to go slowly and make sure you cover all the bases.

If there is interest, we will create a post for tips on how to create a stake pool for those interested in building one.
